Q1 attends English Theatre Performance“Kindertransport“ in Siegen
On January 28, 2026 all year 12 students (Q1) attended the performance of Diane Samuels‘ award winning theatre play “Kindertransport“ (1993). The play was performed by the ENGLISH THEATRE FRANKFURT in the Apollo Theater in Siegen.
It combines an emotional intergenerational conflict between a daughter, mother and grandmother with the story of the 9-year-old Eva who had to flee from Germany in 1938 in the face of the persecution of the Jews by the Nazi Regime. The story also teaches a history lesson, reminding us of 10000 Jewish children that were saved from the concentration camps and taken to British foster families or children’s homes between 1938 and 1940. It also highlights the trauma which can be caused by separating children from their parents in a situation of war and persecution.
What the students liked about the performance (some examples):
– “The actors were excellent.“
– “Their different accents matched their roles in the play really well.“
– “I didn’t know that so many children had been taken to the UK with these “Kindertransports““.
– “I liked the ratcatcher as a scary personification of Eva‘s fears and trauma.“
